Sustainable bleaching of Eucalyptus sp. kraft pulp with hypochlorous acid, ozone and hydrogen peroxide

نویسندگان

چکیده

Eucalyptus sp. is the most important planted crop for production of chemical pulp. This pulp mostly bleached with chlorine dioxide, which produces hypochlorous acid in situ when reacting lignin. However, applying hypochlorus directly not practiced, even though it contributes significantly to bleaching reactions. Therefore, this article presents as main oxygen delignified kraft The results showed that solely decreased kappa number more efficiently than dioxide did, without increasing content adsorbable organic halogens (AOX) effluent. sequence acid, ozone and hydrogen peroxide produced fully pulps, low organically bound (OX) aerobically digestible effluents. pulps digested effluents complied international standards industry. appealing because short, uses mild conditions requires less or similar energy produce chemicals comparable ECF sequences from literature.

Kinetics of Ozone Bleaching of Eucalyptus Kraft Pulp and Factors Affecting the Properties of the Bleached Pulp

Ozone is a non-chlorine bleaching agent that can reduce pollution in the pulp bleaching stage. In this work the ozone bleaching of eucalyptus kraft pulp was performed as part of a kinetics study to explain factors affecting the properties of bleached pulp. The bleaching efficiency was closely related to the rates of mass transfer and self-decomposition, as well as the intensity of ozonation. Fo...

Hydrogen Peroxide Bleaching of Hardwood Kraft Pulp with Adsorbed Birch Xylan and Its Effect on Paper Properties

The adsorption of xylan on pulp fibers improves the strength properties of paper. However, the optical properties are decreased significantly. The objective of our research was to bleach hardwood kraft pulp with adsorbed birch xylan by hydrogen peroxide and study the effect of bleaching parameters on paper properties. The bleaching parameters studied included bleaching temperature, time, initia...

ECF BLEACHING WITH A FINAL HYDROGEN PEROXIDE STAGE: IMPACT ON THE CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF Eucalyptus globulus KRAFT PULPS

Two industrial elemental chlorine free (ECF) bleaching sequences, D0(EOP)D1(EP)D2 and OQ(PO)DP, are compared with respect to the bulk content of lignin, carboxyl, hexeneuronic acids (HexA), and reducing groups after each bleaching stage. HexA groups contribute significantly to the total content of carboxyl groups, and their degradation during chlorine dioxide bleaching is reflected by a decreas...

Biobleaching of Bagasse Pulp with Xylanase Enzymes and Hydrogen Peroxide

The effect of the operating conditions (temperature, time, pH, enzyme level and pulp consistency) used in the enzymatic step of a XP (Cartazyme-hydrogen peroxide) sequence for bleaching Kraft pulp from bagasse on various properties of the resulting pulp and paper sheet products was studied. The quality of bagasse used, was examined by its yield, brightness, viscosity and the Kappa number. Finall...

Mg(OH)2-Based Hydrogen Peroxide Bleaching of Deinked Pulp

Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) has been used as an alkali source in conventional hydrogen peroxide bleaching. In the present work, partial and total replacement of NaOH with magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)2) as the alkali source for hydrogen peroxide bleaching of deinked pulp was studied. The bleached pulp was studied with respect to brightness, post color (P.C.) number, and mechanical properties (i.e., t...
